My earlier post Ready Set Blog provided a broad overview of the first steps
to be taken in creating a blog.
This post and the one’s that follow, take you step by step from “wanting to
have a blog” to “having built a blog to be proud of”.
Let’s “rock and roll!”
PS: No jumping the steps!
I Itch For the Right Niche
“What is a niche and why is it important to me?
“A niche market is smaller part of a larger market on which a specific
product or service is focused”
To make this a bit easier to understand, take the health and fitness market
for example. The health and fitness market is huge and covers a vast number
of areas from personal fitness to healthy eating and dietary products.
Each of these specific areas in the health and fitness market is a niche. For
example “weight reduction” is a niche. Each niche can also be broken down
into smaller and smaller niches. For example a smaller niche would be for
“weight reduction for men over 50. A smaller one still would be
“weight reduction for men over 50 living in Siberia”
Probably not very profitable, but you get the idea.
Now you know what a niche is. If you just want to have your blog as a
hobby, that’s all you need to know.
But if you want to make money from your blog, you need to know more.
Show Me The Money
To start building your blog right, you need to find a market that has large
groups of people willing and able to buy specific products and services.
Next, identify a niche (smaller segment of market eg weight loss for men over
50) where people are buying products and services you are happy to provide.
Take your time to discover the niche that suits you.
To give you a kick start, these are the largest and most profitable markets
below:
Digital marketing.
Blogging and making money online.
Health and fitness.
Personal finance and investing.
Recipes and food.
Personal development and self-care.
In my next post we will look at researching your niche. Look for the post:
